Norasport Championship round two

1 of 2

The Bank Holiday Weekend started with sunshine, as round two of both the British and National Championships commenced at Lydd International Raceway.

Lewis Cornish continued to make his mark as an up and coming talent in the youth class, and secured six wins as the youths ran two rounds this weekend.

Oliver Harrison had set the fastest qualifying time and showed that before long he will be challenging Lewis along with Josh Haselden.

450 National Championship

James Addy set the fastest time in qualifying followed by Darren Warner and William Moore.

Warner however took the lead going into race one, and held there for the first three laps when Addy secured the front spot just before the table top.

Addy then led comfortably followed by Warner, while Oliver Holmes took third position.

In the battle for fifth spot were Mick Bertram, Chris Cunningham, Paul Wilby and Lee Rudd, and although they all kept up the pressure, Bertram just managed to keep a comfortable distance until the finish line.

The complex dirt section at Lydd challenged some of the riders, but Addy secured the second win of the day comfortably, with Holmes in second place and Warner in third.

Rudd improved from race one and took fourth position in front of Brad Davey. The final race commenced with Addy the first faller, and he found himself in down in 28th position when he restarted.

Several other riders also found themselves tangled in the dirt on the first burm. Holmes avoided the debris on the first lap and with the advantage he led the final race. He finished with a comfortable lead from Warner; and clear in third position was William Moore.

Graeme Norris moved up from his eighth place finish in race two, to clinch fourth place in the final followed by Ryan Blandford.

Declan Hoey had the better of the battle between himself and Ben Robb while Addy salvaged points by pulling up to tenth position by the end of the race.

Open National Championship

Four Full grids went out on Sunday morning to Qualify for their Groups, and Alan Smith set the fastest lap with Darren Lee in second position for the A group start. But the first group out onto the track were the D group riders.

James Addy managed to secure the majority of the points with some excellent riding, but Alan Smith would have been an extremely strong contender had he not suffered with some misfortune.

British Championship

Round two promised to be as action packed as Three Sisters with Shane Stratton, Jochen Jasinski and Rob Herring as the wildcard riders for this round. Gennaro Dichello and Phil Smithson were both injured and unable to compete

Christian Iddon secured the best points overall on the day, but was closely followed by Sam Warren and the spilt at the end of the day was only one point.

The final race however was won by Matt Winstanley and Craig Venske had some excellent finishes with fourth place on all three races.

Jochen Jasinski had a long journey to race this weekend and started the day with a third place finish.

While the top placed rider in the 450 class was Lee Jones who battled throughout the day to keep Ricky Higgs and Keith Farmer at bay, Richard Darlington took excellent points to finish with the third highest points in the group.
