Two generations - 80 years

When my father died in 1995 he left me a wealth of information about motorcycling from his days as a speedway rider.

As a consequence I added his memories to mine and this became “The Vast Collection”.. I can pull out photos of the early days plus anything from the 40’s to 90’s.

I have used these souvenirs to write for magazines and for websites and have even worked with people such as Leslie Nicholls and was a story-finder for Norrie Whyte..

Dad began as a successful speedway rider but attempted other disciplines with similar success.

He rode against Nick Jefferies’ father and Frank Varey to name but two of the era.

I am digitising all of the pictures and transparencies and already have a rare collection of photographs of a number of eras.

My speciality is the Isle of Man TT so I add a photo or two of 1961, my Dads last year (after attending since 1927!)

A change of job stopped him going for several years but I dragged him back in 1974 and then again in 1978 and 1979 in time to see Hailwood’s return.

We had one last year over together in 1983 but that was it. I have been going from 1947 to now !!
