MX1 World Championship: Ken De Dycker the surprise in Sweden

1 of 1

Honda’s Ken de Dycker surprised everyone as he dominated round nine of the MX1 World Championship in Sweden with a win in race one and second place in race two.

Kawasaki’s Tanel Lock battled hard to fight off third placed man Kevin Strijbos (Kawasaki), but he struggled for the rest of the day.

Strijbos was at the front with Steve Ramon at the beginning of the opening race, but failed to stop Tanel Lock moving through, while Ramon went back to fifth later on.

In race two Steve Ramon secured his second victory of the season and his third podium in a row. The Suzuki rider finished the day in overall second place after chasing Ken De Dycker into second place. This left the battle for third place down to KTM’s David Philippaerts and Kawasaki and Britain’s Billy MacKenzie.

David Philippearts was the eventual winner of this battle to claim third place.

Current championship leader Joshua Coppins (Yamaha) did not have a good weekend with a fifth overall from a fourth in race one and sixth in race two. This was the first time in 2007 he has failed to make the podium, but he still leads the championship by 89 points though with Steve Ramon (Suzuki) in second.

Britain’s Billy MacKenzie (Kawasaki) had a good weekend with a seventh in race one just over 40 seconds behind the leader and just missed out on the podium by four seconds with a fourth in race two.

The ninth round at the Udevalla track proved testing for many in the field with its bumpy terrain.
