New boss at Rizla Suzuki

Former GP racer Simon Buckmaster begins his new role as Team Manager for Rizla Suzuki when the squad attends the Mallory Park ‘The Race of the Year’ on October 15, 2006.

Buckmaster, 45, has managed at Suzuki WSB, Kawasaki BSB, Honda BSB and Renegade WSB teams, and in 2006, he spearheaded Cal Crutchlow’s winning effort in the British Supersport championship. He takes over managerial responsibilities from Robert Wicks, who becomes Commercial Manager, and Niall Mackenzie, who will continue his friendship with the squad in an unofficial capacity.

During his racing career Buckmaster rode in 500cc GPs, World Endurance, and won the ACU Star 1000cc championship, plus rounds in the European 500cc championship.

“I won’t settle for anything other than racing at the front in 2007 and I know Rizla Suzuki can deliver,” said Buckmaster. “I can’t wait to get started and I’m looking forward to gettign stuck in at the Race of the Year. That will give me a good look at the team and is the first building block for the 2007 British Superbike championship.”
