BSB star marathon blog

British Superbike star Dean Ellison is planning to compete in the New York marathon to raise funds for the Riders for Health charity. And he’s sharing his training regime in a blog for MCN.

Training update 1

Due to the injuries sustained at the Oulton Park qualifying crash on the 22 July I have obviously not been fit enough to carry out my marathon training programme so for the next 4 weeks I will almost be learning to walk again. I started out on the 2hour 45 minute training programme and I was on schedule with everything, my half marathon times were constantly under 1hour 15 minutes and I felt that I could make more improvements.
At this stage I have only done 2 short training runs and my knee feels very weak, I didn’t want to run until the season had finished because my main priority was to be fit enough to race in the BSB Championship and try and salvage something from a disasterous year.
My plan is to do a short run each day until this coming weekend, this is to get my knee used to the impact of running and hopefully I will be ready to run twice a day from Saturday onwards. If my knee feels stronger after the weekend then I hope to finish the marathon in under 4 hours which is way off what I wanted to do but at this stage it will be amazing to just complete it.
