Rea on crutches

New HM Plant Honda signing Jonathan Rea won’t be joining BSB Champion Ryuiichi Kiyonari at the first test of the 2007 Fireblade at Motegi later this month, as he’s still recovering from an operation.

Rea badly injured his knee in a crash at the end-of-season non-championship Mallory Race of the Year and underwent an operation to repair damaged MCL and ACL ligaments, and the removal of a pin used to stabilise a femur broken at Knockhill in 2004.

The Northern Irishman told MCN: “I was a bit sore after the operation but I’ve already got a lot more movement in the knee joint than the doctors expected me to have at this stage. Things are looking good and I can’t wait to get back on a bike again.”
