NW200 practice begins

Michael Rutter has finished fastest in a first practice session for the North West 200 which was marred by three accidents.

Rutter, riding the Stobart Honda, recorded a 120.66mph lap, just faster than Bruce Anstey with 120.21mph, Ian Lougher with 119.87mph and John McGuinness with 119.78mph. However, the session was interrupted by accidents. Irish riders Ken Doherty and Damien Mulleady suffeed a borken leg and slight head injuries respectively, while English rider Keith Burtonshaw has suffered serious injuries after falling at Mathers Cross in the final practice of the evening.

In the Supersport class Ian Hutchinson was fastest with 114.61. bruce Anstey was second quickest on 114.29, and Ian Lougher was third on 114.06mph. Anstey heads the Superstock class with 116.39mph, but the 125cc and 400c class practices were cancelled due to the number of accidents.
