John McGuinness has won the Senior TT for HM Plant Honda, breaking lap and race records on his way to a third win in 2006, and his 11th TT career victory.

McGuinness led from start to finish, setting a lap record from a standing start of 17 minutes 39.95 seconds (128.145mph), only to improve on his second lap with 17 minutes, 29.26 seconds (129.451mph). The Honda rider finished 20.21 second ahead of Cameron Donald in second, with Bruce Anstey third.

“Three wins is brilliant, it was what I wanted before I came here and that’s what we got, said McGuinness. ” My name is on the Senior trophy twice now, alongside names like Giacomo Agostini and David Jefferies, and I am so proud, over the moon.”

“I didn’t think the lap was as good as it was, I thought maybe it was a 128.5mph lap or thereabouts, so I’m surprised at just how fast it was. I felt under pressure this week, and to get this last win is a massive weight off my shoulders.”

Ian Hutchinson retired from the race early on, as did Jason Griffiths, with both riders OK.

McGuinness also wins the Joey Dunlop Trohpy for winning the Superbike and Senior TTs, along with a 600cc win.
