Toseland blogs on Brno

World Superbike star James Toseland has started ‘blogging’ about his life as a top racer for the Ten Kate Honda squad, and he’s kindly said he’d share it with you all…

Monday July 24, 2006:

We wake up at 7.30 on a raceday to get out and warm up. I got on the track at 9.20am. We usually have a run out and you know, kind of warm up around the track. I was well chuffed to be back on my number one bike after suffering loss of the thing on Friday.
At 9.30am:
Some wildcard of a Czech local rider rode beside me as I took a corner at 100mph. He was doing 20. Mph! Look back at it, I’m bloody lucky to be sat here in Brno writing this but if I dwell on it…..
Everything was going fine as I approached that corner and he just clipped me a bit, just a little bit. I was never that great at physics at school but superbikes is a great teacher: take me, him and the speed differential and the next thing I know I was thrown 20 feet in the air after highsiding. The side of the engine came off missing my foot and ankle narrowly. The oil pissed out of the 12 screw holes that used to have screws on them around the side of the engine that this joker had just pulled off!
Mr Flamini went mad, naturally and disqualified the poor lad. And my number one bike was gone again.
So number two bike was back on the grid and I think I did well, of course I’m disappointed about Kagi but he and Fabrizio did us all a favour and I know I can still do this.
The scenes in the pit enclosure after race 2 were bordering on Emmerdale, what with Haga upset with Fabrizio and everyone’s bike losing grip in the heat.
It’s funny how you set off one day with great plans and when they suddenly go wrong you pray for a plan B. My plan B was to forget about everything of the weekend and concentrate on a win.
I don’t believe in fate, I need more control than that. Perhaps destiny for me is in knowing that I have to control fate!”
