Guy Martin and Ian Lougher were among the winners at the Scarborough Cock o’ the North meeting on July 8 and 9, 2006.

Martin won the opening superbike event on his Yamaha R1 from Ian Hutchinson and Mick Goodings, and followed this up with a further victory over Hutchinson’s Hawk Kawasaki, and Ian Armstrong in the third superbike race, followed by a Classic Superbike win on a Triumph Tirdent 750 from Chris Palmer and Trevor Keys.

Ian Lougher was also celebrating, having his taken his 100th career race win in the second race of the weekend, from Armstrong and Darren Lindsay. He followed this up with a second place behind Hutchinson in the National 600 race, with Lindsey third.

In the first of the classic events, Chris Swallow rode his Manx Norton 500 to finished ahead of Chas Mortimer and Jack Armstrong, with the 350cc class going to Tim Jackson, from Raymond Moore and Geoff Leather.

The 250cc class was won by Darren Lindsey from Chris Palmer and Sandy Dranfield, with the 400s going to Mick Goodings, from Derek Clark and Alistair Hawarth. The Sid Barnet Classic 350 was won by Peter Wakefield, with Anothony Myers second and Jack Armstrong third.

In the 125cc class, Chris Palmer overcame Michael Dunlop and Peter Wakefield to take the win. The Lansdowne 500 went to Mark Sharrock, from Chris Swallow and Chas Mortimer, while the 350cc class went to TIm Jackson, from Mike Attrill and Grant Sellars.

In National F2 sidecars the pairing of Connole and Winn took the victory from Thirkell and King, with Harrison and Patterson third. The fourth superbike race went to Hutchinson, from Lougher and Dwyer Agenew, with Michael Dunlop taking the National 125 GP win.

Sunday saw Guy Martin win the Barry Sheene Classic Superbike event, with a further National F2 sidecr win for Connole and Winn. And the Cock of the North final race was won by Ian Hutchinson on the Hawk Kawasaki, from Ian Lougher and Guy Martin.

One rider sadly died as a result of an incident during the Sidecar Practice on Saturday morning. Driver Gary Bryan and passenger Colin Hardman were involved in a single sidecar outfit incident, when the outfit crashed. Hardman died of the injuries he received, and the Auto 66 Club extends sincere condolences to families, relatives and friends, as an investigation is carried out into the first sidecar fatality in 60 years of racing at the circuit. The Saturday sidecar race was cancelled with a parade lap as a mark of respect.
