Stewart's San Diego win

Kawasaki rider James ‘Bubba’ Stewart was able to take the win at sixth round of the AMA Supercross championship in San Diego on Saturday, February 11, 2006.

Reigning champion Ricky Carmichael took the holeshot for the 20 lap final, leading until the penultimate lap. Stewart was always in contention, remaining within one second of Suzuki-mounted Carmcihael until he was able to take the lead with just one lap to go.

“It was nice to finally get a good start and I think we both put on a great race for the fans. I gave it my all tonight and I got beat James got the best of me and he was better than me,” said Carmichael.

Third was Chad Reed for Yamaha. Despite taking second place, Carmichael heads both the AMA Supercross and World Supercross championships from Stewart and Reed.
