Haslam wins at Oulton

Leon Haslam has broken the HM Plant Honda strangle-hold on the British Superbike championship by taking the win in the second of the two races at Oulton Park.

Michael Rutter won the first race and looked set to take the win in the second but the damp conditions proved enough to let Haslam slip passed to take a lead that he would keep till the end of the race.

The first race saw Rutter storm to a massive lead of almost six seconds ahead of second placed man Gregorio Lavilla on the Airwaves Ducati, with Karl Harris taking third place on the Honda UK machine.

The rain came down between the two races forcing the second race to start Wet and making for some slippery riding with several collisions between the top riders.

Haslam fought his way to the front but Rutter nearly knocked the two out of the race while trying to regain the lead. Rutter nearly ran on to the grass but recovered and finished the race in second with Karl Harris taking his second third place.

James Haydon was making up for being dropped by the GSE team taking eighth in race one after very nearly crashing out of the race. He dropped to 20th place but managed to fight his way back up to eighth. Race two saw Haydon take an even more impressive fourth place.
