Stefan Everts will be favourite to take the 2005 MX1 series having taken a third victory at a pre-season meeting.

The Belgian entered the second round of his home MX1 championship at Neeroeteren in Belgium and won all three ‘motos’ to take a clear victory over Suzuki’s Joel Smets.

Cedric Melotte led the opening moto until an error at the halfway stage allowed Everts past to take the win. In the second and third races the Rinaldi Yamaha rider wasn’t challenged, and took the wins easily. Joel Smets took second overall with sixth, second and third places.

The MX2 World Champion, Ben Townley, suffered a terrible day when he failed to finish two races, while factory Suzuki rider Kevin Strijbos damaged his already injured ankle and is in danger of missing the opening round of the World MX1 championship in Zolder, Belgium, this weekend.
