World Supercross begins

1 of 1

The first round of the 2006 World Supercross Championship took place in Toronto, Canada on Staurday, December 3, 2005, with Ricky Carmichael foced to settle for second behind James Stewart.

Reigning champion Carmichael started third for the 20-lap main event, but took the lead on the second lap. Despite building a 3.5 second lead by the halfway stage, Stewart was able to close and move to the front as the lead pair lapped up to sixth-place Michael Byrne.

“Tonight was just fine,” said Carmchael. “James was faster than me. I know where I could have been better so i’m going to go home and work on it. It was a good race, we had fun and I got my butt whipped. It’s motivating to get beat sometimes.”
