1 of 1

Rising teenage star Chris Jones has died after a start-line incident involving nine bikes at the start of the British 125cc championship round at Cadwell Park on Monday August 29.

Chris was just 14.

He was third in the championship prior to the Cadwell round after three podium places in a row. He had won twice already this season and was the 2004 MRO 125GP champion.

It’s believed Chris’ bike stalled on the line.

He was airlifted to Hull Royal Infirmary where he died this morning (Tuesday, August 30).

His Redbull Honda Racing team issued this statement on Tuesday, August 30: “It’s with great sadness that we announce the tragic death of Chris Jones following a start line incident at Cadwell Park yesterday, August 19.

“Words are of little comfort at a time like this and all of our thoughts are with Chris’s family and friends.”

An inquiry and inquest are expected to follow.
