Oulton holds title key

1 of 1

Michael Rutter goes into this weekend’s Oulton Park British Superbikes round under pressure to deliver a huge points haul if he is to take his title challenge to the wire.

With only one round to go after Oulton, the Honda rider is 33 points behind Suzuki’s John Reynolds. But he’s closing the gap. Before Croft and Cadwell Park it had been 73. If he carries on closing at this (10 points a race) rate he’ll take the championship in the final race of the final round at Donington.

“I had a couple of good races at Oulton Park last time round. I managed to take two third-place finishes for the HM Plant Honda Racing team. This time I’ll be hoping for two wins.”

But Reynolds is unlikely to be phased by Rutter’s game of catch-up. Reynolds knows any slip-up by Rutter could see Reynolds crowned at Oulton.

If Reynolds wins both races he’ll claim the title providing Rutter doesn’t notch at least two second places. Any result which sees Reynolds extend his lead by 18 points will hand him the title.
