Hundreds join DJ tribute

Around 200 riders joined in the Dave Jefferies tribute ride at the weekend’s Gold Cup races in Scarborough.

They were led from the meeting point to the Oliver’s Mount circuit by John McGuinness. MCN test rider Adam ‘Chad’ Child joined John in a series of wheelies and burn-outs to mark the event.

Riders assembled close to Morrison’s on the outskirts of the town on Sunday morning and rode in convoy where they completed two laps of the circuit.

Racing on the day included the tribute David Jefferies Trophy. And the Jump towards the end of the bottom straight has been renamed Jefferies Jump after the road racing legend who died in practice for the 2003 Isle of Man TT.

Jefferies won Scarborough’s Gold Cup race five times: 1992; 1994; 1997, 2000 and 2001, equalling Geoff Duke’s record of five wins in 1950; 1953; 1954; 1955 and 1956. Barry Sheene won four times.
