Dakar deal for Extance

Honda has agreed a two-year deal with off-roader Mick Extance for the 2005 and 2006 Dakar races.

The 41-year-old will attempt his fourth Dakar in 2005 aboard a Honda XR650, and on his return from the 18-day event, will receive a Honda CRF450X to allow him 12 months of preparation for the 2006 event.

The 2005 event begins on January 1 in Barcelona.

“The Honda is so reliable, the XR machines just keep going and going,” said Extance. “The engine remains standard but it will have a larger fuel tank and we have done some work to the suspension. I think the partnership between myself, Rally Raid UK and Honda will provide excellent results”
