Yukio and Rutter win

1 of 1

Yukio Kagayama made a triumphant return to Cadwell Park on Bank Holiday Monday. He won race two at the circuit where last year a crash left him out of action for five months.

Round 11 saw John Reynolds championship lead closed too, as Michael Rutter won race one. Rutter’s win came after the race was red-flagged just two laps from full distance. It was a one-two with HM Plant team-mate Ruichi Kiyonari.

Championship leader John Reynolds was unable to challenge after losing the front end of his Rizla Suzuki at the Charlies One turn. His Rizla team-mate Kagayama looked likely to challenge the lead pair after fighting his way up to third position after leaving the first corner of the race in eighth place, but ran out of time to make a move for the lead when the race was stopped.

The reason for the stoppage was a crash for Steve Plater on the Virgin Mobile Yamaha. Pole-sitter Scott Smart also suffered misfortune. He had to pull into the pits from fourth place due to a problem with the drive chain of his Kawasaki ZX-10R.

The second race was a reversal of fortunes as Michael Rutter failed to finish. Wet weather had interrupted the racing, and tyre choice was crucially important due to the combination of bright weather and a damp track. A wrong choice of rear led to Rutter entering the pits mid-race but when race leader Yukio Kagayama lapped him, he decided the day was over.

Kagayama’s victory came a year after a crash at Cadwell left him in hospital. Scott Smart overcame the disapointment of race one by taking second, and Sean Emmett gave the MonsterMob Ducati team a third place.

Dean Thomas, Glen Richards and James Haydon rounded out the top six, and John Reynolds salvaged vital championship points with an eighth place.
