Carmichael keeps title for third year

1 of 1

Ricky Carmichael has held on to the AMA Supercross 250cc title for a third year, despite coming home in second place behind his closest rival Chad Reed at the final round in Las Vegas.

The points difference between the two riders meant that for Reed to win the title Carmichael would have had to drop down to fifth place in the race and Reed win it.

Reed did win the race but ‘RC’ followed him home four seconds behind in second place securing the crown.

The race was a little less exciting than predicted. Officials warned both riders before hand that there was to be no dirty riding but there turned out to be no need.

Reed stormed in to the lead from the start and didn’t see another rider until he crossed the finish line. Carmichael managed to fight his way back to second place but Reed had already extended his four second lead and couldn’t be caught.

The result meant that Carmichael managed to hang on to the title for a third year but it was the closest title fight in a long time with just seven points between him and Reed.
