Snetterton MRO, March 22-23

Snetterton hosted the first Motorcycle Racing Organisation (MRO) meeting of 2003 on March 22-23.

2002 Aprilia Superteen Champion Jon Boy Lee used the meeting to have his first run out of the season with his new team, Team UK1 Racing.

The team has been created in association with the ACU Academy to offer the teams brightest young talents a free of charge ride at top British National level and, if sufficient talent is found, on to Spanish and World level.

Lee secured a win and a second place in his first two rides on the 125GP Honda in the Bemsee race on the Saturday.

In the MRO race on the Sunday Lee held second place for half the race, before crashing out when passing a back marker and running off line.

Fellow Academy rider Rob Guiver made a charge to the front, eventually taking second place. Rob was delighted with the race and result, which also gave him the new MRO lap record, which was previously held by his boss, Steve Patrickson.

In the 125 Aprilia Superteen class Alex Lowes secured a front row start for both races and finishing in the top ten, along with brother Sam who started from the second row.

Scottish Academy rider Kev Coghlan led twice during the race but a couple of mistakes relegated him to third place.

The Academy is looking forward to more of the same at the first round of the National Championships at Silverstone next weekend.
