Heckles waits for WSB in British Supersport

Mark Heckles has decided to compete in the first four rounds of the British Supersport championship, after Rumi Honda failed to raise enough money for him to compete in the opening rounds of World Superbikes.

The bike is the Ten Kate Honda CBR600RR that Chris Vermeulen rode to seventh place in the 2002 World Supersport championship. It was bought for Heckles by the combined effort of his dad and Chris Walker, with some contributions from Walker’s personal sponsers.

He plans to test the Honda at the open practice session at Mallory Park on Wednesday, March 19.

Last year Heckles placed 22nd while riding for Rumi Honda in WSB but has been told that the team won’t have the money for him to compete until the fourth round at the earliest.

Heckles said: “I’ve still heard nothing new about the WSB ride so I decided to do something about it and at least get myself racing. The bike has been bought by my dad and Chris Walker so I can get out and do the first four British Supersport races. After that we will have to see what happens but I am really fired up about it.”

A full round up of the Mallory Park tests will be in the March 26 issue of MCN.
