Harris wins Production 600 race

Shaun Harris has won his second race at the Isle of Man TT, taking the shortened 600cc Production race with a comfortable lead.

The start of the race was delayed by four and a half hours as the mist failed to clear from the Mountain. It eventually got under way at 3:15pm but the fog soon rolled back in, the pit lane was closed and the race shortened to only two laps.

Harris had pulled out a two-second lead by the first time point at Glen Helen on his Suzuki GSX-R600, but by the end of the first lap he had extended it to almost 10 seconds.

The Kiwi, who won the 1000cc Production race on Monday, continued to extend his lead throughout the second lap eventually finishing over 16 seconds ahead of second placed Ian Lougher.

Adrian Archibald and Ryan Farquhar fought hard for third place but Farquhar eventually came out on top, beating the TAS Suzuki rider by under a second.

Lightweight TT winner John McGuiness was sitting in 15th place at the end of the first lap but his decision to pit at the end of lap one for a fuel stop saw him drop to 17th when the third lap was dropped from the race.

All the riders were happy with the decision to drop the lap with Farquhar saying that the fog was getting visibly thicker on the higher parts of the course. At some points he could see no further than 10 bike lengths.
