Dave Hewson, Cadwell Park, June 15

Branston Supersport 600 racer Dave Hewson rode to his best result of the season with a wonderful seventh place at his home circuit of Cadwell Park on Sunday.

Qualifying went well for the 21-year-old county rider as he powered the Yamaha R6 to a personal best time of 1m 04.87s to secure eleventh place and a third row start to his MRO championship race on Sunday.

As the race got underway Hewson was off to a flying start making up places on the first two corners of the tricky club circuit only to lose out when he went in a little too hot and clipped the grass dropping back four places behind the following freight train of riders.

Hewson managed to claw his way back through to fifth place with a clear track ahead of him but in the closing stages his tyres began to overheat in the hot conditions forcing him to ease off the gas. This allowed the pursuing pack to close the gap and eventually Hewson conceded a couple of places towards the end of the 18 laps to cross the finish line in seventh position.

" I have been practising my start procedure and it obviously paid off because I got a really good start. The shorter club circuit here is much more difficult than the full international track as you miss out the mountain section and swing back around a nasty hairpin which caught out a lot of riders throughout the weekend, " said Dave.

" I have just secured a new sponsor, Lee Johnston of Red Ring Racing, Dunston so I am especially pleased I produced a good result today. I am also working towards fitting a new engine for my next race which hopefully will see me improve even further. "

With this fine result Hewson moves up the table to 14th on 16 points but with a further top ten finish from the next round at Snetterton on July 20 could see him close the gap on the championship leaders.
