John Reynolds has topped the time sheets in the first day’s practice sessions for round eight of the British Superbike championship at Mondello Park.

Reynolds on the Rizla Suzuki GSX-R1000 finished the day as the only rider under the 1:42 mark, half a second ahead of Sean Emmett on the ETI Ducati 998.

The third fastest time went to Michael Rutter followed by Glen Richards, Scott Smart and Gary Mason.

Championship leader Shayne Byrne crashed out after only four laps of the second session. He was uninjured but his limited track time on the new circuit left him at a disadvantage and he could only manage to set a 1:42.86 lap leaving him with the seventh fastest time overall.

Reynolds team-mate Yukio Kagayama was eighth fastest with a time of 1:42.95 followed by Renegade Ducati 998 rider Leon Haslam and Steve Plater on the Honda SP-2.
