Kagayama does Rockingham double

Yukio Kagayama took his first British Superbike victory in race one at Rockingham today, and then followed it up with his second win in race two.

Grid positions for both races were based on current championship standings after repainting work on Friday made the track too slippery for qualifying. Kagayama took a comfortable win in the first race after working his way through the field. Title favourite Shane Byrne slipped to second from his pole position and Honda’s Steve Plater was third.

In the second race Kagayama faced a battle with Byrne right up to the final corner, with the Rizla Suzuki rider benefiting from a mistake by Byrne. Michael Rutter improved on his fourth in race one to take third in race two, demoting Steve Plater to fourth.

Meanwhile Sean Emmett had a point to prove, putting his ETI Ducati in seventh and eighth, both times finishing one place ahead of his replacement in the Renegade Ducati team, Leon Haslam.
