Stefan Everts claimed wins in both the 125 and MX GP classes at his home round at Namur in Belgium on Sunday July 20.

The double included his fifth consecutive MX GP win and a fourth 125cc win from five starts, bringing his career total to 63 wins. Everts also moved to the top of the Motocross GP standings for the first time this season. In total, the home nation claimed three wins in total and six podium positions out of a possible nine.

The Motocross GP race was a battle between Yamaha-mounted Everts and KTM’s Joel Smets. Smets rode well to keep in touch with the 30-year-old Belgian, but a mistake with two laps to go ended his challenge. Mikael Pichon claimed third, with Marnicq Bervoets fourth. In fifth was KTM’s British rider Jamie Dobb, producing a season-best result. Irishman Gordon Crockard was forced to retire after collecting some fencing in his wheel.

Everts also commanded the 125cc race, passing fellow Yamaha rider Andrea Bartolini on the first lap. He was joined on the podium by countryman Steve Ramon, who demoted Bartolini to third. Fourth was Tyla Rattray, fifth Mickael Maschio, and sixth was Brit Stephen Sword.

And local boy Christian Melotte took the 650cc race his home circuit. Melotte broke the seven-race winning streak of Joel Smets to claim the top spot, with Javier Garcia Vico second, and Smets third. Gordon Crockard claimed fourth in front of Avo Leok.
