Hislop denies ‘quitting’ story

Steve Hislop has lashed out at a report in a national newspaper which claims 2003 will be his final season.

” I don’t know where they got it from, ” said Steve, ” I could race on for another few years. People just presume it because I’m 40 years old and I’ve won the title. ”

Hislop, the current British Superbike champion, is set to ride for the Virgin Yamaha team in 2003. The first he heard about the story was in a call from a very confused Rob McElnea, his team boss, this morning. ” I’m at home suffering with the flu and Rob called asking where the hell it came from. It’s total bollocks. ”
