Dougie Lampkin has lost his first title in five years of indoor and outdoor world trials.

Plagued by an ankle injury since the fourth round in Italy, but also under pressure all season, Dougie remained in contention of the world indoor series until Sunday’s final round in Madrid where 21-year-old Spaniard Albert Cabestany finally wrapped up the championship.

The Spaniard only started the series in Sheffield as a sub for the injured Graham Jarvis.

Lampkin said: ” Words cannot describe how I feel at this moment. I don’t know where I want to be or what I want to do. I knew if it happened it was going to hurt but the actual feeling is even worse than I expected.

Dougie’s outdoor world trials championship defence begins in Callvia-Mallorca, Spain on April 13/14.
