GP2 series for UK

The British Superbikes series could soon witness the new GP2-spec bikes. GP2, which will eventually support the MotoGP class, limits engine tuning to Supersport levels, but allows a free-reign when it comes to chassis.

No date has been set for it’s introduction into the world championship, but an early introduction in the British Series would mean a head start for British riders, teams, and the frame-building and aftermarket industry.

The class has already been embraced by the Spanish national federation as their premier category, and now Colin Appleyard, the team owner of the Virgin Mobile Yamaha satellite outfit in British Superbikes, has presented the outline of possible regulations at a recent Motorcycle Industry Association meeting, saying,

” GP2 could bring innovation back to the sport. If we brought it in sooner rather than later, it would ensure the British teams would be ahead of the game ”
