Famous five: Indian release special FTR after their fifth championship victory

After five years back-to-back wins, Indian Motorcycle have celebrated the total domination of their FTR750 racebike with a limited-edition version of their FTR production bike.

Effectively a ‘greatest hits’ model, the ‘Champ Edition’ brings together the latest refinements of the 2022 FTR and the truer flat track dimensions of the original model, wrapping the whole lot up in carbon fibre and special edition paint.

As you can see, one of the biggest changes is visual. The Champ Edition has a red frame, red wheels and a red/white/gold tank cover, all of which echo the FTR750 race bike.

Added to that is the bezel on top of the tank cover, which lists the 2017-2021 championships. There’s also lots of carbon to lavish over including the seat cowl, front mudguard, airbox cover and the headlight nacelle. Last but not least is the twin-exit titanium Akrapovic exhaust.

As it’s meant to be closer to the race bike, the Champ returns to the 19/18″ wheels of the original as well as the longer travel (150mm) Sachs suspension.

However it’s got all the tweaks of the latest model including the rear cylinder deactivation and the revised fuel filler. The engine is unchanged, so the 1203cc v-twin still produces 123bhp @ 8250rpm and 88.5ftlb @ 6000rpm.

Indian are producing just 400 of the ‘Champ Edition’ worldwide and just 150 of those are coming to Europe with a handful coming to the UK, so it you want to bag one you’d best move fast. The Champ costs £15,995, which is a near £2000 premium over the standard S model.
