This CFMoto 800MT-X could be the budget-friendly dirt destroyer to topple established competition

CFMoto have their sights set on the hardcore adventure market with a new middleweight option, the 800MT-X. With a price of just £7999 and a spec list that puts many rivals’ efforts to shame, it could prove a tempting option for anyone looking at venturing properly off the beaten path during a tarmac tour.
Powered by a KTM-designed 799cc liquid-cooled parallel twin based around the original 790 motor with upgrades, the 800MT-X features twin balancer shafts to reduce vibrations and pushes out a claimed 93.9bhp with 63.5lb.ft of torque.
Running a ride-by-wire throttle, CFMoto have chosen to arm it with as much tech as possible with variable power modes, a quickshifter and cruise control as standard fitment alongside a Bosch six-axis IMU, which allows both the ABS and traction control systems to be angle-responsive. And the spec list doesn’t stop there.
To ensure the 800MT-X is able to deal with the rough stuff, it comes with fully adjustable long-travel suspension as well as spoked wheels in off-road sizes with the 21in front running a 90/90 size tyre and the 18in rear a 150/70.

However, despite the 800MT-X’s rugged nature, CFMoto haven’t overlooked those wanting to cover big-miles on the tarmac.
Alongside twin radial J.Juan brake calipers, the 800MT-X comes with an adjustable screen, 22.5 litre fuel tank and tyre pressure monitors, while its kerb weight of 220kg and variable seat height of 830/870mm should make it accessible to all riders. And if they fancy touring, CFMoto have developed a range of accessories including hard panniers, extra crash protection and more.
The 800MT-X is due by mid-2025, and comes in Nebula Black or Zephyr Blue. Dealers (there are over 40 in the UK) are already taking pre-orders.

When you consider the KTM 890 Adventure R is £13,999 (2024 price), Husqvarna Norden 901 is £12,899 (2024 price), Yamaha Ténéré 700 is £10,400 (the Explore is £10,806 and Extreme £10,906), Honda Transalp is £8749 and Suzuki’s V-Strom 800DE £10,999, the CF seems very good value for money.
