Boutique Italian brand, MV Agusta have launched their most extreme supersport machine to date, announcing a limited run F3 Competizione based on the £21,700 three-cylinder F3 RR.

The new track-focussed triple will be limited to just 300 units and will be built by hand at the firm’s Varese factory. The F3 RR it’s based on arrived for 2022, featuring subtle side-mounted winglets plus a new IMU, ABS, and exposed rear wheel design.

These wings remain for the new model and generate a claimed 8kg of downforce at the front end at around 150mph (240kph).

Despite already being light on its feet, the Competizione is said to weigh 14kg less than the RR and comes with a dedicated track kit, including a non-homologated full titanium Akrapovič exhaust system,  bike cover, fibreglass seat cover, and a certificate of authenticity. Each bike is also numbered for authenticity.

Taking the already very competent base F3 RR, previously awarded four stars by Chief Road Tester, Michael Neeves, MV have added a set of fully adjustable Öhlins NIX30 43mm upside down forks, plus an Öhlins TTX36 rear shock. The back end is again fully adjustable with a remote piggyback adjuster shrouded behind the blacked-out single sided swingarm.

Completing the Swedish finery is a 19-stage adjustable Öhlins steering damper, with the full suspension package said to slash a kilogram, when compared with the RR’s standard Marzocchi forks and Sachs shock set-up.

A further reduction in weight comes from the carbon wheels, which MV say reduce unsprung mass by 3kg when compared with the standard aluminium options – helping the bike’s eagerness to change direction on circuit, as well as upping the exotica.

As before, you’ll find four-piston radial Brembos up front, plus a pair of 320mm discs, with yet more weight saving coming from the battery that now becomes lithium-ion to cut a further 3kg. These calipers are shrouded by the carbon front mudguard, with gentle ducts for cooling.

When equipped with the new high-mounted Akrapovič system, the Competizione pumps out a claimed 157.8bhp at 13,500rpm from its 798cc three-cylinder engine. In road trim, the bike now also meets Euro5+ homologation.

Adding to the engine refinement is a nine-disc assist and slipper clutch, which also reduces the force needed to pull in the left lever by a claimed 50%. This should help when pulling away and coming to a stop, however an up/down quickshifter is likely to take care of the rest.

Completing the changes are uprated electronics, with a six-axis IMU working alongside a new ECU. You get four riding modes, with eight stages of traction control to choose from, and a ride-by-wire throttle allows for cruise control as standard.

ABS can be deactivated at the rear in Race mode for big skids and backing it into bends, and the bike can be equipped with launch control as an optional extra if desired too.
