MV Agusta launch six-strong Ottantesimo Collection to mark 80 years of motorcycle production

MV Agusta are celebrating their 80th anniversary through a range of limited-edition commemorative ‘Ottantesimo’ models, all of which also introduce Euro5+ compliance modifications throughout MV’s range.

Meccanica Verghera (MV’s original name) was founded by the Agusta family on January 19 in 1945 to build motorcycles in post-war Italy as their former business, aerospace, was prohibited by the Allies.

Having developed a 98cc motorcycle engine in 1943 (which was hidden from the German army during the factory’s occupation), MV were now free to supply Italy’s growing demand for transport.

MV was born and now six commemorative models celebrate the fact with each one’s production limited to just 500 units worldwide.

The range consists of four 800cc triples and two 1000cc inline fours, all of which will come with not only a lazer engraved plaque on their top yoke but also a certificate of authentication. But that’s not all: each one also features extensive mechanical, chassis and electronic updates.

The 800cc triple Ottantesimo range consists of a Brutale RR, Dragster RR, F3 RR and Superveloce S and while their counter-rotating 800cc triple produces the same power and torque as before, it now meets the stricter Euro5+ regulations.

All models feature a six-axis IMU, giving them angle-responsive safety assists, alongside launch control, an up/down quickshifter, cruise control and a 5.5in TFT dash with connectivity.

There is also a new clutch with a 50% lighter lever action with the Dragster RR featuring MV’s SCS clutch, which allows you to stop in gear without pulling in the lever.

Buyers of the F3 RR Ottantesimo get an Akrapovic exhaust, boosting power to a claimed 152.9bhp, as well as a CNC-machined fuel cap and pillion seat cover while the Superveloce S Ottantesimo features an Arrow exhaust, upping its power to 150.9bhp.

The Brutale 1000 and Brutale 1000 RR Ottantesimo benefit from a heavily-revised 1000cc inline four that has a new ECU with improved fuel maps, updated cams, 50% lighter clutch and a new Arrow exhaust system.

The net result is claimed boost of mid-range drive between 3500rpm and 9500rpm that sees an impressive 14.8ft.lb and 14.8bhp gain at 5500rpm.

As before the Brutale is the base model with the RR featuring Öhlins semi-active suspension and added carbon. Prices and arrival dates are yet to be confirmed.
