Built to go the distance | Ducati unveil tricked up DesertX 'Discovery' with all the options ticked

Ducati have announced a full bells-and-whistles version of their DesertX adventure bike and it’s due to hit dealerships this July.

Built to take on the likes of the Husqvarna Norden 901 Expedition, the new DesertX ‘Discovery’ takes the stock DesertX adventure bike platform and throws the full accessory catalogue at it, loading the standard 223kg off-road tourer with a host of extra equipment which the Bologna brand say makes it the “ideal travel companion.”

To protect the bike in the rough stuff Ducati have specced reinforced hand guards, engine guards with protection for the water pump and a beefy aluminium sump guard which should stave off any rocks thrown up from its big 21-inch front wheel.

It’s not all about making the already capable machine even tougher though, and Ducati have addressed rider comfort too, adding heated grips and a taller screen to improve comfort at low temperatures.

A centre standard is included too to facilitate easy chain maintenance and rear wheel removal, and a pair of aluminium panniers sit either side of the bike capable of swallowing 76-litres of luggage.

Finishing off the adventure ready look is a fresh black and red livery to stand it apart from the standard model.

Accessories added aside, the new machine is technically the same as the existing DesertX, with no changes mentioned to the suspension, chassis or electronics package. Performance remains the same at 110bhp and 68 lb.ft too.

Price ahead of the July release has been set at £17,295.
