Canadian firm Can-Am share full details and pricing for new Origin & Pulse electric motorcycle duo

Funky three-wheeled trike specialists Can-Am are branching out into the motorcycle sector for 2025, launching a pair of tech-heavy electrics set to go into production before the end of this year.

Previously teasing both models with limited detail, the Canadian firm have now fully spilled the beans, confirming both a £15,399 Origin adventure bike, and a £14,899 Pulse naked roadster.

Both will be available as either an A1 licence 125 equivalent, or a larger 47bhp A2 licence ready proposition – complete with reverse functionality and battery regen.

“Today, we are reclaiming our two-wheel heritage by bringing new excitement to the electric motorcycle industry,” President and CEO of Can-Am parent company BRP, José Boisjoli said. “Fifty years ago, Can-Am celebrated many victories with its Track ’n Trail motorcycles, and we are bringing that pedigree back with a focus on modern electric power, connectivity and thrill.

“We intend to become a global leader in that space with true innovation designed to simplify the riding experience for new riders and introduce electric motorcycles to all.” 

Both bikes use BRP’s own Rotax E-Power motor and a fully automatic transmission. You also get a claimed 53lb.ft of torque at just 4600rpm. The motor itself is liquid cooled, as is the 8.9kWh battery, charger, and inverter – said to help reduce battery degradation whilst also boosting charge time.

Using a level 2 charger (something you might normally find in a shop carpark or mounted on the wall at home) Can-Am say the bikes will go from 20%-80% full in 50 minutes.

Moving into specifics, the 187kg (dry) Origin rolls on 21in front and 18in rear Dunlop D605 dual purpose tyres. Suspension also comes courtesy of KYB, with chunky 43mm upside down forks, and fully adjustable rear shock.

You’ll find a fairly tall 865mm seat height, too, with 274mm of ground clearance to stray off the tarmac and into the wilderness.

Can-Am Origin adventure bike

Sticking firmly on the road is the Pulse, which rolls on 17in Dunlop Sportmax GPR 300 tyres, plus 41mm KYB forks, and a Sachs shock adjustable for preload.

Both get a single 320mm disc braking set up at the front featuring a two-piston J.Juan floating caliper and ABS. Elsewhere, the 177kg Pulse gets a far lower 784mm seat height, with just 146mm of ground clearance thanks to its road-only disposition.

Weighing slightly less than the Origin it gets a slightly larger 100 miles of claimed city range, with the taller adventure bike only said to be capable of 90 miles in the same conditions – not ideal if you’re planning an off-road adventure weekend on the TET.

Can-Am Pulse naked bike

Shared between the two bikes though is a large 10.25in touchscreen colour TFT dash, which helps to control your riding modes. On the Pulse, there’s four to choose from; Normal, Eco, Rain, and Sport+ with each one altering the throttle response plus ABS and traction control input. The Origin, meanwhile, gets six to play with consisting of; Normal, ECO, Rain, Sport, Off-Road and Off-Road+.

For a little extra bling, both models will also be available in a more exclusive ’73 special trim, featuring additional optional extras and an exclusive silver paint scheme.
