Next generation OSETs arrive: electric off-roaders coming in 2024

Leading British electric off-road specialists, OSET, have launched what they claim is the “next generation” in battery powered fun and competition machines.

Called the ‘TXP’ range – which stands for ‘Trials, Xplore and Play’ – the two new bikes are claimed to offer a significant advance in battery and motor technology as well as a novel, new ‘convertible’ seat designed to enable them to be altered from trial to trail style in under five minutes.

The two TXPs are a complete, ground-up redesign over OSET’s existing models. As well as the convertible seat, they are also claimed to have double the power of previous models as well as increased torque from an all-new brushless motor. There is also a new chassis with fully adjustable air suspension.

In addition, a new sealed lithium battery is claimed to provide up to four hours runtime with 90% recharging from only 90 minutes. A bespoke motor controller adjusts speed, power, and response settings so the bikes can be adapted from safe beginner machines through to competition-capable bikes at the push of a button, while there’s also a fully adjustable ‘parent lock’.

The all-new, brushless drive motor is claimed to be not only more powerful than its predecessor but smoother, too. The lithium battery’s capacity has also increased while the new chassis boasts improved geometry. The TXPs even have bespoke new OSET tyres in an attempted to deliver better grip.

The ‘keypad control centre’ is also new and not only offers easy, push-button adjustability of speed, power, and throttle responses – which should help youngsters adapt and develop their riding over time.

The two models are the TXP-20 which is aimed at seven to nine-year-olds and will cost £3695. The larger TXP-24 is aimed at pre-teens, teens, and adults and priced £4195.

OSET Bikes was formed in 2006 by Ian Smith who built the first model for his son Oliver. OSET stands for ‘Oliver Smith Electric Trials’, with the company bought out by Triumph Motorcycles in June 2022 and Smith remaining as CEO.

Speaking about the new range, Smith said: “OSET bikes is all about getting kids on motorcycles and having fun, whether they choose to compete in trials, to explore or simply to play.

“We understand that a traditional trials bike without a seat can feel like an alien concept, so we offer two entry points,” he continued. “The same bike will suit a back garden rider or a person competing at the highest level of trials competition. Simply dial it up or down and change the seat or trials unit to suit ability and adventure.”

The new TXPs will be on show at Motorcycle Live later this month at Birmingham’s NEC, where there will also be an opportunity to test ride them. Bikes will be available from mid-December, with further information available at osetbikes.com now.
