Watsonian Sidecars get, er, sporty

British manufacturer Watsonian-Squire have released a new sidecar to mark the company’s 105th anniversary.

Called the Flight, the sidecar has been designed to suit modern motorcycles. It features a lot of legroom with an upholstered seat that pulls forward to reveal a luggage compartment.

The outfit has been fabricated from a tubular steel chassis and features a swinging arm suspension design with a hydraulic shock that’s connected to a 15-inch cast wheel. The body of the sidecar is made from fibreglass which is both light and durable. It helps keep the weight down to 70kg.

Like all Watsonian-Squire sidecars, the Flight will be produced in the company’s Cotswold factory.

Watsonian-Squire can produce a fitting kit that will fit most motorcycles with a traditional tubular steel frame, but can be adapted with special subframes in some cases.

The price may make you wince a bit though, starting at £5195, they don’t come cheap.

A good year

It’s been a pretty good time for the British manufacturer, who have upped their production by 50% to meet export demands. They are one of only a few sidecar manufacturers left in the world.

With a lower value to the Pound, it seems that the appetite for the Brit-built sidecars has soared.

If you like the idea of a sidecar and fancy knowing what it’s like to take for a spin, why not check out this feature we did with Ural in Austria.
