BMW updates entire R1200 range

BMW has revealed a range of technical updates to an array of bikes as it brings them into line with new Euro4 emissions and noise regulations with the whole of F800 range and many of the R1200 models involved.

In the R1200 range there is the return of the popular ‘Triple Black’ R1200GS Adventure model along with changes to the entire  R1200GS range, R1200RT, R1200RS and R1200R too; again done with Euro4 regulations in mind where noise and exhaust emissions controls are much stricter.

R1200 platform changes

The BMW R1200GS is the biggest-selling bike in the UK over 125cc and changes have been brought in for next year’s laws but the bike will actually be available as a 2017 model from August 2016.

These technical changes outlined on the R1200GS extend to include the R1200GS Adventure, R1200RT tourer, half-faired R1200RS and the R1200R roadster as all will have to fall in line with the same Euro4 regulations and the engines, swingarms and running gear are much the same.

Changes to the bikes include a judder damper on the transmission output shaft, revised selector drum actuator in the gearbox and updates to the transmission shafts and transmission shaft bearings. An On Board Diagnostics (OBD) light, permanently on sidelights and a revised instrument panel are all part of the changes to all of the bikes in the R1200 range.

Return of the ‘Triple Black’ R1200GS Adventure

The ‘Triple Black’ R1200GS Adventure has been established for a few years now and remains a popular choice for many owners. BMW has responded to customer requests and brought back the special edition that tries to make the bike as black as possible.

The central fuel tank cover, storage compartment lid and front mudguard in Blackstorm metallic together with fuel tank side panels in Dark Slate metallic give the already purposeful and aggressive GS an even tougher style. The engine, gearbox and swingarm are also painted black. A new black seat with GS logo on the passenger is also standard.

Mild mods for R1200RT, RS and R too

Along with the engineering changes outlined above, the RT, RS and R models will get new paint schemes and they will also be available with the ABS Pro cornering ABS system and the Dynamic Brake Light which strobes under heavy braking to warn following traffic of a potential emergency ahead. The RT will be available in black, white and a metallic bronze colours with a metallic blue and black being removed from the available options.

The R1200RS and R models also get colour changes.
