Cologne Show: New Kawasaki Versys 650

1 of 4

• 649cc parallel twin
• More peak power
• 21 litre tank

Also benefitting from a visit to the beauty parlour is the new Versys 650. Already rightly popular for being a great all-road all-rounder, it has received a multitude of upgrades for 2015.

The new looks are clearly intended to mimic its bigger brother, with the same new dual front headlamps and the cowling improving rider protection and aerodynamics.

The proven 649cc engine is retained, as is the low to mid-range torque essential for daily riding and two-wheeled fun, but tweaks have delivered a boost in high rpm performance, while Kawasaki also claim improvements in fuel efficiency.

Upgrades have also been made to the long travel 41mm suspension, which now has separate functions for each tube, allowing all adjusters to be at the top of the forks.

New calipers, a revised master cylinder, new brake pads and a larger 250mm rear disc all deliver increased braking power, and the payload has also been increased to allow touring riders to carry more kit.

There’s also a larger adjustable windscreen and two more litres in the fuel tank, which can now carry 21-litres.

Again, no UK price has been set, but we wouldn’t expect much movement beyond £7000.
