New Aprilia Caponord 1200 revealed

This is the long-anticipated Aprilia Caponord, designed to rival machines such as Ducati’s Multistrada 1200 as a road-oriented dual-sport-tourer.

The bike was snapped at Piaggio Group’s annual dealer convention in Monte Carlo just days after MCN discovered patent diagrams showing the same bike (see MCN out this Wednesday).

Referred to as either the Tuareg or Caponord, both revivals of old Aprilia badges for its dual-sport models, the bike is clearly based on the existing Dorsoduro.

It shares exactly the same frame – a part-alloy, part-steel design – and suspension, as well as using the same DOHC V-twin engine. In the Dorsoduro, the motor is available as both an 1197cc, 130bhp version and a 92bhp, 749cc unit.

For the new machine, which clearly has more of a long-distance touring intention, the bigger motor seems most likely to be used, although Aprilia could opt to offer two models.

See MCN out Wednesday February 8 for more pictures and details.
