Facts and figures: BMW S1000RR vs Fireblade vs GSX-R1000 vs R1 vs ZX-10R

MCN will be riding the new BMW S1000RR at the world launch next Tuesday.

Chief road tester Trevor Franklin will be riding the Honda Fireblade, Suzuki GSX-R1000, Yamaha R1 and Kawasaki ZX-10R during the days before he flies out to Portimao in Portugal, so he can give the best idea of how the new BMW is going to fit into the 1000cc sportsbike hierarchy.

In the meantime, here’s how the S1000RR matches up on paper. Obviously we can’t verify BMW’s claims for power and weight, but if they’re right and the bike isn’t oddly geared then the S1000R should accelerate discernibly faster than the lardy underpowered competition.

Which would mean we have a BMW which blows a GSX-R1000 into the weeds… and who ever thought that would happen?
