Yamaha has admitted it made ‘mistakes in counting’ the number of bikes it made and exported in the last year – to the tune of a quarter of a million motorcycles.

According to reports*, the firm has ‘restated’ its production, sales and exports figures for the 11 months which ended in February.

On March 29 it reported to the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association that it had made 746,892 bikes in that period. The reality was 495,688. Exports were 30% lower than previously reported – at 436,970 bikes instead of 624,466.
