Mugello test reveals Tornado almost ready

TESTS earlier this week in Mugello reveal Benelli’s WSB hopeful, the Tornado, is almost ready for action. The Italian firm first presented their three cylindered hopeful to a receptive audience at last year’s TT but it has taken this long to get close to the power needed to be competetive on the world stage.

Output figures haven’t been released for the 900cc triple but Benelli are thought to have finally found the extra horses that test rider Peter Goddard was looking for. Aussie ace Goddard, a veteran of Aprilia’s superbike development programme, was drafted in early

on to work the same magic on the Tornado.

A spokesman for the firm said ” We are very satisfied with the progress made at the tests, and we will now be starting the final trials of the higher specification, competition engine. ”
