Triumph Speed Triple R takes on Aprilia Tuono V4R APRC and Ducati Streetfighter S

If you’re into the wild side of motorcycling, super nakeds like the Triumph Speed Triple R, Aprilia Tuono V4R APRC and Ducati Streetfighter S are the perfect bikes for you.

Though MCN’s testers agreed the Aprilia was the best bike when a wide range of criteria were considered, the overall result wasn’t as simple as that.

We discovered that because of the diffeent character of the bikes, each would suit particular types of riders perfectly.

What they’ve got

Aprilia Tuono V4R APRC £11,728
A naked RSV4R superbike. It’s the most powerful, electronically-advanced and the cheapest super naked here. It has traction control, a quickshifter, three riding modes, anti-wheelie, ride-by-wire and launch control. It also comes with Brembo radial brakes and fully-adjustable Showa suspension.

Ducati Streetfighter S £15,124
Launched in 2009, the Streetfighter is now available in S trim – the basic version is no longer available. It’s a naked 1098 superbike, retuned for road use with all the superbike’s plumbing and electronics tidied up to give a clean look. It has Marchesini wheels, Brembo monobloc brakes, traction control and Ohlins forks, shock and steering damper.

Triumph Speed Triple R ABS £11,899
The new kid on the block, the Speed Triple R is a super naked in its own right, not just a stripped-down superbike. Launched last month, it costs £2500 more than the standard model and weighs 2kg less. It comes with Ohlins NIX30 forks and TTX36 rear shock, PVM forged aluminium wheels and Brembo monobloc brakes.
