2010 Triumph Sprint GT - first riding impressions from Skye

1 of 1

Trevor Franklin reports after his first 50 miles and has this to say about the new Triumph Sprint GT1050.

It’s obvious Triumph has taken the direction of the Sprint GT to a higher touring level from the looks alone, but from the seat it¹s even more apparent; very comfortable under the bum, with an effective screen in front of you that makes you question the point of the additional accessory high level screen.

The engine carries over the traditional three cylinder character that seeps through every Triumph triple, the difference being the power and torque peak lower down the rev range, making it really relaxed engine between 70 and 90mph.

The pillion seating position is every bit as good as the rider’s too. It’s undoubtedly shaping up be a bargain premium touring bike, then, but there are signs it also has more than a smidgeon of fun too.

There are one or two minor detail issues the small MPH scale on the speedometer is positioned left of the rider’s eye line and takes more than a brief glance to read for example but it’s nothing serious.

The test goes on and if there’s a finer bike to be touring round the Scotland’s Isle of Skye, I’ll be trying to think of it all the way.
