New Indian Chief - first impressions

MCN gets the first ride on the Chief, the latest bike from Indian, America’s oldest motorcycle company.

The new Chief is Indian’s entry level bike, costing £15,500.

First impressions are that the bike oozes quality. The fabrication is top notch and it’s hard to spot areas where corners have been cut – deep chrome, premium leather and luxuriant paint are everywhere on the 1716cc V-twin.    

The engine looks identical to previous models, but Indian’s engineers say almost all parts have been subtly altered to increase smoothness and efficiency, and the camshaft has had a complete overhaul.

The riding position is natural, the suspension is pliant, but the bike seems long for small riders – as you can see from the action shots.
