Here’s 5 of the best engines as voted for by users of the MCN site:

Suzuki Hayabusa

5 – Suzuki Hayabusa (1999-2007)
“The original Suzuki GSX1300R Hayabusa is still one seriously quick motorcycle, possessed of enormous acceleration and breathtaking top speed. True, the GSX1300R Hayabusa doesn’t quite handle all that power (and weight) too brilliantly sometimes, but it remains a supremely comfortably long range missile, that always delivers a shot of raw adrenaline.”

Aprilia RSV1000 Mille

4 – Aprilia RSV1000 Mille (1998-2003)
“Why buy a Ducati when you could have an Aprilia RSV1000 Mille? OK, the name may not be as famous but the Mille is a superb superbike with a surprisingly reasonable price tag. Looks are distinctive, reliability is pretty good it’s just unfortunate that dealer back up can be patchy.”

Triumph Daytona 675

3 – Triumph 675 (2006-2008)
“The Triumph Daytona 675 has put Hinckley firm back on the shortlist of many UK sports motorcycle riders, who previously rated the 600 and 650 Daytona models as being OK, but no real alternative to a Japanese four cylinder 600cc sportbikes. Silky, compact handling, allied to kick-ass engine power and a howling exhaust note, make the Triumph 675 a real winner on the road, or track.”

Suzuki GSX-R1000

2 – Suzuki GSX-R1000 (2005-2006)
“The first Suzuki GSX-R1000 set new superbike standards in 2001, the second one did it again in 2003 and this, the third full GSX-R1000 update, went straight back to the top of the superbike tree in 2005 and stayed there, pretty much ever since. The reasons for the Suzuki GSX-R1000‘s dominance are simple. Sublime, lithe ergonomics and handling, radical styling and full-on usable power.”

Kawasaki ZX-12R

1 – Kawasaki ZX-12R (2000-2006)
“For many owners the Kawasaki ZX-12R combines the best aspects of the Honda Blackbird or Hayabusa, but mixes in a dose of good old fashioned lairy fun. The Kawasaki ZX-12R is a beefy, roomy sports-tourer, with an engine that keeps tempting you to open it up. Decent build quality too.”
