The throttle is responsible for much more than just acceleration. It also affects weight transfer, suspension movement and grip, which makes it crucial for fluid, fast, safe cornering. In the latest episode of MCN’s video series – in partnership with National Highways’ BikerTek initiative – the Secrets of Better Riding, we’ll reveal all the top tips to fine-tune your throttle control.
“Advanced riders will often talk about using ‘acceleration sense’ to describe using the throttle to match road conditions as they ride,” says Rapid Training coach Giles Lamb, an ex-police motorcyclist who presents the videos.
“But in reality this is more about reading the road than skilled throttle twirling. If you
read the road well in advance it’s usually fairly simple to adjust your speed using the throttle rather than the brakes because of the extended time you have to react.”
