What a bunch of wimps bikers have become!

Having just arrived back from summer hols, I have been hit by this vile “tax” of Westminster Council who are now charging bikes to park, which I knew nothing about. To say I am angry about it is an understatement. How ironic that it should be the wealthiest Council that is the first to implement a totally unjustifiable additional road-tax on bikers. Equally gaulling is the nambie-pambie, totally...

A biker I be

One could be forgiven for dubbing ‘refueling’ as the most uninvolving element to motorcycling (I won’t say boring, physics proves this impossible when bikes are involved). Sure, you have to stand and watch the counter with a steady hand, and remember to bring the money to pay with. But in comparison to say, normal riding, it isn’t as demanding. Those who ride will know what I’m talking about.

Road Tax and emissions

Just a quick one: I’ve recently passed my DAS in April and now own a Suzuki DL650X V-Strom. I’m baffled however by the road tax! My company car is a Honda Civic Hybrid (I took the tax dodging option) and it’s meant to be a so called eco-friendly vehicle (bullshit – average of 37mpg). Its emissions are 109g/km of CO2! Having had curiosity get the better of me, I searched for the emissions for my...

Are bikers snobs?

Last year Hubby decided after a 20 odd year break it was time for us to get back into bikes. We took our CBT, bought a 125 to potter about on and practise and then took our DAC which we passed, (no errors for me, one for hubby, sorry love just had to get that in). We then spent our well earned cash on a couple of 600 bikes, Hubby went for a Divi, and I made a few mistakes before finally in March...

Video: Triumph Daytona endurance test

We know the Triumphs 675 Daytona is good but if you check out the video below you can see how it performs against the best supersports motorcycles from Japan in a tortuous six-hour track thrash. MCN road tester Adam Child went to the Franciacorta circuit in Italy to test the Triumph against the Honda CBR600RR and Yamaha R6. Triumph moving to Thailand- cheaper for who?

Kevin Ash’s article regarding Truimph’s decision to move production to Thailand prompts me to expand on the theme of heritage, honesty and country of manufacture. The justification for moving British jobs to China is often that its cheaper, but cheaper for who? Not the consumer! How much did Barbour clothing plummet in price when they went to China? Or Snap On (yes Snap On)? Or DeWalt power...

Another kind of speed camera?

I saw what looked like a new speed trap arrangement yesterday, in S Yorks. It was a black box on a tripod, similar in appearance but a bit bigger than one of the old-fashioned glass plate cameras. It was in the central reservation, hidden partly by the street furniture and placed to catch rear number plates. I only spotted it as I was passing it in the opposite direction, so didn’t have time to...
